Jose Alvarado Facts

Jose Alvarado (born April 12, 1998) is an American professional basketball player for the New Orleans Pelicans of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is nicknamed "Grand Theft Alvarado" (a play on the name of the popular video game Grand Theft Auto) due to his abilities in stealing.[1] Alvarado represents Puerto Rico internationally. He played college basketball for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
Alvarado used to play football, but he stopped after hurting his neck. At Christ the King Regional High School in Middle Village, Queens, New York City, he was a basketball player.
Alvarado won Player of the Year honours from the Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) during his junior season, averaging 17 points and 6.5 assists per game.

On August 19, 2021, he signed a two-way deal with the New Orleans Pelicans after going undrafted. He divided his time between the Pelicans and the Birmingham Squadron, who are an NBA G League affiliate of the Pelicans.
